Costing Assistant
England, West Midlands, Coventry - £20,000 - £20,500 per annum

Our client a long established Engineering firm based in Coventry seeks a Costing Assistant


Overall purpose of role
To provide full administrative & analytical support to the Cost Accountant. This will include
running the Costing's Office when the Cost Accountant is attending meetings, or when
engaged in critical work for management.
Key Accountabilities
Month End
To process the month end roll up of costs for Companies.
To process all Month End Day 1 stock & cost reports, including order intake / order bank /
invoiced sales reports for senior management.
To process goods in transit journal & other adjustments.
Detailed month end scrap report.
Daily / Weekly
Daily & weekly reporting of scrap costs & stock adjustments, including journal work to
capture misallocated costs. Scope to develop this role, especially re underlying trends, & to
compare data from previous years. Will be required to attend short, daily meetings on the
subject with key personnel from Operations.
Daily analysis of purchase orders raised, & to investigate & set the standard costs for newly
created parts / items with a zero standard. Important liaison work with both the Purchasing
& PED departments is required here. Again, scope to develop this role.
Detailed analysis of Purchase Price Variance & production costs.
Analysis of inventory transactions.
To undertake ad hoc analytical analysis, as directed by the Cost Accountant. Yearly
To provide full support to the Cost Accountant during the annual UK stock take; the setting
of new standard costs & stock revaluation, as well as a variety of tasks for year end.
Relationships
* Ensure that constructive working relationships are built and maintained with key
third party personnel e.g.:- all operations staff.


Experience within a manufacturing environment is preferred, but not essential.
However, a background that includes working for a small / medium sized enterprise is a
distinct advantage.
Some finance experience is essential (Costing's background would be a real bonus).
Skills
Comfortable with Excel, & database work (v look ups, pivot tables).
To have an affinity with finance work.
Ability to understand quickly the nature of the task in hand; to be a good organiser (aware
of deadlines & the critical path to achieve them), the ability to work unsupervised, &
therefore to have the motivation to complete work on time, to be able to handle periods of
intense activity, as well as periods of relative calm, to see the "micro" & "macro" impacts of
the task in hand, to be confidant in engaging with staff from all levels of the organisation, to
be happy to offer solutions re ways of doing set tasks in a more efficient way, to be able to
undertake long monotonous tasks.

Must be mentally tough to cope with the pressure & intensity of the role.

Education and qualifications
Maths & English to O Level / GCSE standard.
